Solo Episodes

This season wasn’t just about guests—I dove into some big topics, connecting the dots between health, faith, and societal trends:

  • The Illusion of Control
Why do people gravitate toward rigid systems like diet culture or fundamentalist religion? We unpacked how our brains crave structure and the dopamine hit of control, even when it’s an illusion.
  • Deconstruction vs. Reconstruction
Navigating deconstruction is hard, but reconstruction might be even harder. I shared practical tools for rebuilding your beliefs after disentangling from harmful ideologies.
  • Diet Culture & Disentanglement
A raw look at how diet culture mirrors the tactics of high-control groups, from shame-based messaging to all-or-nothing thinking, and how to break free.
  • Cultish Thinking in Everyday Life
Beyond the obvious cults, we examined where manipulative tactics show up in mainstream culture, from hustle culture to political ideologies, and how to protect your mental autonomy.
  • Breaking Toxic Mindset Cycles
Why mindset matters: uncovering how to reframe limiting beliefs and move toward sustainable growth, even when the odds feel stacked against you.

  1. Hi! I just discovered your podcast through the Marissa Burt interview and have been catching up!

I recently came across a resource I think you may be interested in because of your focus on the effects of trauma and also the church. Personally, I have been looking for a book like this for years. (Or praying someone would write it!)

The book is called “Trauma in the Pews – The Impact on Faith and Spiritual Practice” and Dr. Janyne McConnaughey wrote it for ministry leaders to help them understand how the church is (even often unknowingly?) harming trauma survivors.

The book covers how much of the spiritual advice given in the church is not helpful and even damaging. (example: Repent! There must be sin in your life!) The message of this book is so important!

Here is a link to a podcast interview with her if you’re interested further:

You are doing important work. Keep it up.

    1. Hi Becky! Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to come over and say hello and listen to some other episodes! This book looks so insightful! Thank you for the recommendation and the interview! That means a lot me, it’s been a really difficult time deconstructing and feeling the vertigo of losing community and evolving beliefs. I’ll give the interview a listen today! Your kindness really touched my heart, I need a little extra love today, so thank you. 💗💌

      1. Absolutely! It is very disorienting and a hard thing to go through. Glad to spread the love. : ) My process hasn’t ended in a loss of faith, but it has definitely changed.
